The Secret Life of Bees

The Secret Life of Bees The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
The Secret Life of Bees, but Sue Monk Kidd. I loved this book. I love this type of literature anyway, but I was so attached to all the characters. I'm nervous to see the movie because I don't want to be disappointed. Many of my friends couldn't get beyond the religious/spiritual things in the book, but for me, the black Madonna and their feelings about her were a vehicle to understanding who each of those women were. This is a quick, simple Jenny book review, but I'm tired and there is so much out there already about this book, so what more do I have to add at 11pm on a Tuesday night? I laughed. I cried. It was a great read.

I read The Secret Life of Bees about 5 years ago and LOVED it. It spoke to my soul and taught me a lot about love and acceptance. Honestly, I think it changed me. I saw the movie a little while ago and LOVED it just as much as the book. I will admit that I don't remember a lot of the details of the book, mostly just the feelings associated with it, so I couldn't adequately critique the movie BUT it did capture the essence of the book and I laughed and cried just as hard as I did when I read the book. Seriously, my roommate and I walked out of the theatre looking like disaster areas. We cried so hard and just kept saying "it was SO good."

I also loved this book. I love how they all made their own family together. Have you read the MErmaid Chair? I have it sitting around . . .I think it was her first book.
