Audiology Appointment

A few weeks back, Samantha had an audiology appointment.  It was early in the morning so the office was pretty empty.  Sammy was able to roam a bit more than I normally let her.  She enjoyed it.  I was happy about this appointment.  It confirmed what I already knew -- that her hearing is fine -- but I really liked the audiologist.  She was kind and sweet to Sammy.

Samantha has always passed her hearing tests, but has never turned towards sounds.  How can she pass when she doesn't find the sounds?  When they test the actual function of her ear...they can tell that it works.  The ear picks up the sound.  But, for whatever reason, she couldn't ever locate the sound.  They felt that was more of a developmental issue than a hearing issue.  It made sense to me.  Over the past year we have spent time working on an exercise that helps her locate sound at varying pitches and volume.  It was just one of those things that Donna (our neurodevelopmental therapist) had us work on.  This time, this hearing test, was the first time Sammy has EVER been able to locate sound.  It was pretty awesome.  It was just another testament to me that we are doing good things with this little lady.  It may not seem like a huge deal to a lot of people, but to me, it's massive.  I love you Sammer.

That IS a big development! You are doing so well with her...and I bet how much you love her has a lot to do with it!
