Easter 2013

Let me just ask you a question.  How do you possibly get kids to take a good picture together?

I think of all the days since the beginning of this world's history, that Friday was the darkest.  But the doom of that day did not endure.  The despair did not linger because on Sunday, the resurrected Lord burst the bonds of death.  He ascended fromt he grave and appeared gloriously triumphant as the Savior of all mankind...

Each of us will have our own Fridays -- those days when the universe itself seems shattered and the shards of our world lie littered about us in pieces.  We all will experience those broken times when it seems we can never be put together again.  We will all have our Fridays.

But I testify to you in the name of the One who conquered death -- Sunday will come.  In the darkness of our sorrow, Sunday will come.  No matter our desperation  no matter our grief  Sunday will come.  In this life or the next, Sunday will come."

Pure Michigan

We loved being in Michigan.  Even though we left sunny California for the snow and cold, it was way worth it.  Check her out; someone was very excited about the snow.

The other big perk was being around family.  The kids loved being with their cousins.  Callie pretty much worships Lindsay.  One day my sister offered to babysit so Marcus and I could catch a movie.  When I told Callie that Aunt Lisa was going to babysit, she said, "Lisa?  My new friend?"  I thought that was so cute.  I love my family, wish we lived closer, but was so happy for the short time we spent with them.

6 Months

Six Months

Time goes quickly.  I cannot believe Micah is already 6 months old.  This means that we have begun our process of finalizing the adoption, which is exciting.  But it also means he's moving all over the place, chewing on any object he can get his hands on, eating "food" and enjoying it, and getting cuter and cuter everyday.  Two teeth are officially broken through.

Micah definitely has his preferences.  He giggles hysterically with both Mommy and Daddy...but Daddy seems to be his favorite in the evening.  Having him come home from work is a treat for everyone.  Micah is a cuddler.  He loves to cuddle with Mommy and makes it known that he wants me more and more.  He loves holding his hand against Grandpa's cheek...which is really adorable since he's the only one he consistently does that to...and he continues to be generally happy.  We wait to see what will happen with his hair.  Will the sides ever grow?  We patiently wait.

He loves people and they all love him.  He's a peaceful spirit full of love, tenderness, and gentle sensitivity.  I anticipate, when he's older, he will be the kid who people gets along with everyone because things roll off his back pretty easily.  I predict he'll have a continue to have this calming presence and because of that, he will be a source of strength and wisdom for those who know him.

That's just what I think.
But I'm pretty sure I'm right.

Everyday, I feel so blessed.

He's my 6 month old miracle.

Cutest Laugh Ever

Micah thinks Daddy is pretty funny.

He Likes It

Our pediatrician informed me that the age to start cereal is 6 months.  He suggested I stay pretty strict to that.  But a few weeks ago, this little guy was grabbing for anything I was about to put in my mouth.  Just shy of 6 months, I gave him cereal for the first time last week.  It went over well.  Each day, he eats a little bowl full and today...after tasting his bib, this was the response.

Just as he smiled, everything in his mouth gushed out.  Moments after he ate the bowl clean, he fell asleep on my shoulder.  Eating is hard work, especially when you grow as fast as he does!

1 More....

Aaaaand, we lost another tooth.  Callie came home from school with her other tooth in a bag.

Still on the subject of teeth -- tonight Marcus opened his mouth and asked Callie what he thought those gray things in his teeth were (he was talking about his fillings, naturally) and she said, "Camouflage?"  I sure hope Callie avoids as much camouflage as she can in the coming years.

Equal to Christmas Eve

Tonight I learned that losing a tooth and anticipating the Tooth Fairy is equally exciting as Christmas Eve...at least in Callie's eyes.

Callie has had 2 loose teeth for awhile now.  But, interestingly enough, 2 adult teeth have already come in. She looked a little like this:

Shark teeth, up close.  Notice the rows of teeth.  Yikes.  Avoid being bit by one of these.

Ok.  Maybe she didn't quite look like this, but you get the concept, right?  She had 2 adult teeth just behind her baby teeth.  When Marcus and I saw this, we were a bit concerned, but we ... with smiles and excitement ... told her how cool it was that she had her adult teeth (then I quickly made a dentist appointment).  Callie has been so proud of her teeth.  She feels like such a big girl.  And luckily the dentist wasn't worried.  Apparently it's fairly normal and since her baby teeth were loose, it looked like he wouldn't need to pull them.

She's been dutifully wiggling her teeth to no avail.  There just hasn't been much progress.

And then, there was tonight.

I came in to see how her teeth brushing was coming and noticed she wasn't brushing.  In fact, she looked a little shocked.  Impatiently I told her she needed to finish up and she said, "Oh my gosh!  Mommy!  I just lost my tooth!"  I have never seen such delight on her face...aside from Christmas morning.  She was so excited.  So proud.  So giddy.  I loved every moment of it.

March 1.  First visit from the Tooth Fairy for Callie.  I'm giddy for her!

Friday Flashback

Looking through old pictures, I came across this one of Callie.  Oh. My. Goodness.  Love it!  It's blurry, but I love it, love it, love it.
